Medhealth Sharm Sheikh 2008 hosts 7 Arab Ministers of Health.

“Medhealth Sharm Sheikh 2007” took place on March 5-6, 2008 at the Sheraton Sharm, Hotel, Resorts & Villas – Sharm Sheikh – Egypt under the patronage of HE Mr. Amro Moussa General Secretary of the League of Arab States and in collaboration with official supporters: the Arab Ministries of Health, League of Arab States, Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council, Executive Board of the Health Ministers’ Council for Cooperation Council States, World Health Organization and Arab League for Quality Healthcare Services and sponsored by Saudi German Hospitals Group as Pearl Sponsor and Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital as Silver Sponsor.

The Opening Ceremony gathered 7 Ministers of Health: Dr. Mohamed Khalifeh the Lebanese Minister, Dr. Hamad Ben Abdallah Al Manaa the Saudi Minister, Dr. Faisal Ben Yaacoub Al Hamar the Bahraini Minister, Dr. Tabita Shukay the Sudanese Minister, Mr. Abdallah Abdelrahman Al Tawil the Kuwaiti Minister, Dr. Salah Mowajda the Jordanian Minister, Mr. Hamid Ben Mohamed Al Kotami the UAE Minister as well as Dr. Hussein Gezairi, the Regional Director of WHO/EMRO office in addition to the ambassador HE. Mr. Ali Mohsen Hamid the representative of Mr. Amro Moussa, the Secretary General of the League of the Arab States.

An open discussion between the Ministers of Health and the attendees also took place following the opening speeches and focused on the Quality in the Arab healthcare sector: its problems and aspirations. The open discussion was covered by more than 7 televisions broadcasting in all the Arab countries.

Medhealth Sharm Sheikh gathered 200 attendees mainly CEOs of Health institutions, Administration & Quality Management Directors & Human Resources Managers in Health Institutions as well as Healthcare Analysts & Consultants. The attendees were from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Lybia, Tunisia, UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Bahrain, Yemen, Germany and China.

Guest Speakers invited from Egypt, UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan discussed with the participants the Arab Project for Quality Improvement of the Healthcare Sector and its pilot adoption in the Arab Countries as well as the impact of quality on patient safety, evidence based medicine and the future of healthcare in the Arab world.

A high profile specialized exhibition ran alongside the scientific program and regrouped some major Health institutions such as Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital and the Saudi German Hospitals Group in KSA, International Medical Center and Dar Al Fouad Hospital, Gamma Knife Center, Egyptian Group, Children Cancer Hospital in Egypt, in addition to a pavilion for the Egyptian Exporters Association as well as widely known medical companies from Germany such as Philips, Tunstall, Primedic, Jemys, Metrax, Ottobock, Greggersen, all under the umbrella of the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ghorfa).

Recommendations of Medhealth Sharm Sheikh 2008.

Under the patronage of HE Mr. Amro Moussa General Secretary- League of Arab States, the Arab Hospitals Federation held its Regular Congress Medhealth Sharm Sheikh 2008 on March 5-6, 2008 at Sheraton Sharm Hotel, Resorts & Villas – Sharm Sheikh – Egypt simultaneously with the Arab Ministers of Health Council and in collaboration with the League of Arab States, the World Health Organization, the Executive Board of the Arab Ministers of Health Council, the Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States and the League of Quality Healthcare Services. The event was organized by Mounassabattcom the promoting and organizing company of the Arab Hospitals Federation Activities.

Around 200 persons from different Arab Countries mainly from the League of Arab States, the World Health Organization as well the Executive Board of Arab Ministers of Health Council participated in this event and discussed 20 medical topics in addition to Arab public and private hospitals.

The event included a conference about the Implementation of Quality in the Arab Healthcare sector in addition to a specialized exhibition for medical supplies, equipment and medical and healthcare institutions.
The congress started with an opening session regrouping Ministers of Health from KSA– UAE– Kuwait– Lebanon– Jordan– Sudan and Bahrain who discussed the subject of Quality in the Arab Country: problems and aspirations. The event was also honoured by the presence of HE Dr. Nancy Bakir – Minister of Culture in Jordan and Former Secretary Assistant to the General Secretary of the League of Arab States.

This event allowed to create networking between the workers in the Arab healthcare sector and stressed on the importance of Quality in the health industry and the healthcare investment as a base for development.
At the end of the event, the following recommendations were issued:
1- Welcome to the Arab Ministers of Health who honored the congress with their presence and participation. A special gratitude was dedicated to HE Mr. Amro Moussa General Secretary- League of Arab States for his patronage of the event and his continuous support to the Arab Hospitals Federation In addition to appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Hussein Gezairi Regional Director of WHO/EMRO and to all the parties that collaborated to the success of this event without forgetting the Appreciation and gratitude to the sponsors of this event namely Saudi German Hospitals Group and Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital as well as to all the exhibitors. Gratitude was as well addressed to the President of the Federation Dr. Faouzi Adaimi and the members of the Technical Committee for the Arab Project for improvement of Healthcare Quality and to the organizing company whose continuous follow up contributed to the success of this event
2- Commitment of the governmental and private parties to spread the quality culture in the Arab societies
3- Welcome to the Arab Project for Improvement of Healthcare Quality and invitation to adopt it by the Arab Ministers of Health
4- Finding the qualified committees that can support the application of the Arab Accreditation programs in the Arab Healthcare institutions
5- Holding the next congress of the Arab Hospitals Federation simultaneously with the Annual meeting of the Arab Ministers of Health Council, upon the request of the participating ministers, noting that the Council will be held in 2009 in Damascus- Syria.
6- Publishing a Health magazine by the Arab Hospitals Federation in order to highlight the activities and news of the healthcare institutions


Arab Accreditation tools for the healthcare institutions.

The technical Committee of the Quality Standards in Healthcare institutions held its meeting on July 25-27, 2006 in Cairo. During this meeting, a draft for the improvement of Healthcare quality standards through Accreditation has been issued. As well the tools for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations have been agreed on.

Medhealth Syria 2009 to be held simultaneously with the Arab Ministers of Health Council.

Upon the request of the Ministers of Health present in the Medhealth Sharm Sheikh 2008, the AHF was invited to hold its next congress Medhealth in Damascus - Syria simultaneously with the Arab Ministers of Health Council during the second half of March 2009.
