Medhealth Cairo 2010 hosts 11 Arab Ministers of Health

Medhealth Cairo 2010 took place on March 10-11, 2010 at Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel Cairo – Egypt under the patronage of HE Mr. Amro Moussa – General Secretary- League of Arab States in collaboration with official supporters: the Arab Ministries of Health, League of Arab States, Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council, Executive Board of the Health Ministers’ Council for Cooperation Council States, World Health Organization and Arab League for Quality Healthcare Services, Private Sector Healthcare Providers Chamber in Egypt, Chamber of Communications & Information Technology in Egypt and Private Hospitals Association in Jordan and sponsored by Hamad Medical Corporation as Platinum Sponsor, Tamer Company as Diamond Sponsor , Private Hospitals Association in Jordan as Gold Sponsor, International Medical Center- Egypt as Silver Sponsor and Pharco Pharmaceuticals as Bag sponsor.
The Opening Ceremony gathered 11 Ministers of Health from Lybia, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and representatives from Ministries of Health in Morocco, UAE, Kuwait, as well as the representative of the Regional Director of WHO/EMRO office, the representative of the Secretary General of the League of the Arab States.
An open discussion between the Ministers of Health and the attendees took place following the opening speeches and focused on several issues related to:
- Where is the healthcare sector heading? towards decentralization or privatization

- Impact of the World economic crisis on the healthcare sector

- Future of medical tourism in the Arab world

- How to manage emergencies and crisis: Experience and suggestions

The open discussion was moderated by Dr. Tawfik Khoja General Director Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States.
Medhealth 2010 gathered attendees from 16 Arab countries mainly CEOs of Health institutions, Administration & Quality Management Directors & Human Resources Managers in Health Institutions as well as Chief Medical Officers, Doctors of various specialties, Head of Nursing Staff.
A high profile specialized exhibition ran alongside the scientific program and regrouped some major Health institutions such as Hamad Medical Corporation from Qatar, Jordanian Pavilion for the Private Hospitals Association in addition to Egyptian Pavilion including booths for Gamma Knife Center, Dar El Mona, Al Dorra Center, Cairo Orthopedic Center, Al Shorouk Hospital, International Medical Center – Egypt, Kamal Shoukry Center, International Physical Therapy Center, Royal Care International, Dar Al Hekma Hospital, General Organization of Teaching Hospitals and Institutes, a pavilion for Expolink, a pavilion for the Chamber of Information Technology, Healthcare Accreditation Council in Jordan, King Abdullah University Hospital in Jordan, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Rafik Hariri University Hospital, Clemenceau Medical Center from Lebanon as well Bangkok Hospital from Thailand, Tamer Company from KSA as well General Secretariat of Health & Environment in Lybia in addition to widely known medical companies.

Four awards distributed during Medhealth Cairo 2010

During Medhealth Cairo 2010, the Federation was pleased to honor several personalities who have made a significant contribution to the healthcare industry in the Arab world on different levels whether leadership, innovation, mentorship or who have distinguished their institutions in terms of achievement in specific fields.

We proudly announce the below awards



- Innovation award for Pioneer leaders in Healthcare to be given to HE Mr. Amro Moussa – Secretary General – League of Arab States
Amro Moussa has been the current Secretary-General of the League of Arab States since his election to the position in May 2001. He was a former Egyptian Foreign Minister and diplomat. Previously he occupied several official positions.
In 2009, he signed a memorandum of understanding with the Holy See and met with Pope Benedict XVI in order to strengthen joint projects and to promote peace and dialogue on a cultural and political level.



- Award for the personality of the year 2010 in healthcare to be granted to HE Dr. Tawfik Khoja- General Director- Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States
Dr. Khoja is currently the Director General of the Executive Board, Health Ministers’ Council for GCC since 2001. He occupied several positions as chairman and member of the board in different committees and healthcare societies in Saudi Arabia. Besides being in editorial board in many health specialized magazines, he had many publications as well as articles that enriched the healthcare sector

- Quality Award for governmental institutions to be granted to Hamad Medical Corporation

- Award of the Quality Leader in Healthcare to be granted to Dr. Faouzi Al- Hammouri- Chairman of Private Hospitals Association- Jordan

Dr. Al- Hammouri occupied several positions in the Specialty Hospital in Jordan before becoming the General Manager in 1999. Under his guidance, the hospital became the first one in the Arab world to acquire several Quality certificates and Excellence Award:

ISO Award 200:9001 in 2000, certificate from King Abdullah II Center for Excellence Twice in the round 2005-2006 and the round 2008-2009, MECCA Award in 2007, ISO 15189 for Laboratories in 2007, ISO 18001 in 2008, ISO 14001 in 2008, HACCP in 2006, Joint Commission International in 2008, the National Accreditation from the Healthcare Accreditation Council HCAC in 2008 and award of Prince Fayssal for innovation and excellence in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Besides being the General Manager in the Specialty Hospital, Dr. Al- Hammouri was elected as Chairman for the Private Hospitals Association in Jordan where he contributed to reinforce the work of this association and to put a strategic plan so that the association meets the needs of its members and the whole Jordanian Healthcare Sector. These efforts were crowned with the Award of certificate from King Abdullah II Center for Excellence for the associations sector.

 


Recommendations of Medhealth Cairo 2010

Under the Patronage of HE Mr. Amro Moussa, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, the Arab Hospitals Federation organized its eighth conference Medhealth Cairo 2010 from 10 to 11 March 2010 at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel - Cairo - Egypt simultaneously with the 34th session of the Arab Health Ministers Council in collaboration with the League of Arab States, World Health Organization, the Executive Board of the Arab Health Ministers Council, the Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States and the Arab League for Quality Healthcare Services in addition to Arab Syndicates and Orders related to Health, and organized by "Mounassabattcom for congresses and exhibitions," the Organizing and Promoting Company of the Arab Hospitals Federation activities.

The delegates attending the event were mainly owners and managers of health institutions from 16 Arab countries in addition to representatives from League of Arab States, the World Health Organization as well the Executive Board of Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States and many Arab public and private hospitals. The attendees discussed 21 topics related to healthcare management over the days of the conference.
A specialized exhibition ran along the Conference regrouping the latest medical supplies and equipment in addition to healthcare and pharmaceutical institutions.
The congress began its activities with an opening session regrouping Arab Ministers of Health from Qatar - Lebanon - Libya - Jordan - Sudan - Syria - Palestine, representatives of the Emirates - Morocco - Kuwait ... in addition to the participation of HE the Ambassador Sima Bahous, Assistant Secretary General for Social Affairs in the League of Arab States and the Director General of the Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States, Dr. Tawfik Khoja and the World Health Organization. The discussed topics focused mainly on the future of the Arab Hospitals for 2015 and the repercussion of the financial crisis on health care, in addition to various topics such as crisis management and the future of healthcare through decentralization or privatization etc ...

This event allowed to create networking between the workers in the Arab healthcare sector and encouraged the decentralization process in the management of Arab hospitals through respect of the autonomy of each hospital or center in adopting the appropriate administrative policies as well as the use of information technology in the medical field and its importance in the Arab hospitals development, without forgetting “quality” as characteristic for the health industry. The Arab hospitals were also encouraged to increase care for pregnant women and provide them with safe deliveries within the women’s health care field.

At the end of the event, the following recommendations were issued:
1 - Welcome to Arab Health Ministers, who honored the conference with their presence and participation in the open discussion that was held within the activities of the Conference. A Thank you was addressed to all supporters and the patronage of the conference, in addition to the president of the open discussion HE Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud ِAl-Higazi Libyan Minister of Health and the moderator of the Open Discussion, Director General of the Executive Board of Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council States, Dr. Tawfik Khoja, the League of Arab States represented by HE Ambassador Sima Bahous for the league’s continuous support of the Federation’s activities
In addition to thanking each of the World Health Organization and all the supporting bodies that collaborated for the success of this event and thanking the sponsors of this event, Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar, Private Hospitals Association in Jordan, Tamer company in Saudi Arabia, International Medical Center in Egypt and Pharco in Egypt as well as the scientific supporters and all the exhibitors. Gratitude was as well addressed to the President of the Federation Dr. Faouzi Adaimi whose perseverance and determination to succeed contributed to the eminence of this event and to the members of the Scientific Committee and to the organizing company for their follow up and efforts despite all the challenges that faced them to succeed in this event.

2 - Continuation of the Federation’s Journey in spreading the "culture of quality" in the Arab societies and considering it as the responsibility between the governmental and non governmental bodies in both the private and public sectors in addition to promoting training in this field in order to spread the culture of quality in each health institution and to every worker.

3 – Continuation of support to the Arab Project for Healthcare Quality Improvement and invitation to begin applying it in the Arab hospitals, in addition to providing all possible support to form a quality league in the League of Arab States.

4 - Emphasis on sustainable development in Arab hospitals for our health world to be environmentally clean.

5 - Work to support all proposals that deal with medical ethics for the patients’ safety.

6 - Support workers in the Arab health sector through the follow up with managers of health institutions in order to have a good training and treatment, and discuss ways to develop human resources in all areas to ensure the development of the health sector.

7 - Follow-up the studies published on the application of health insurance systems in order to achieve the delivery of services at lower cost.

8 - Follow-up with the Technical Secretariat in the League of Arab States the "Award for the best nursing job in the Arab States" issued by the Arab Health Ministers Council in order to activate the role of nursing in the Federation.

9 - Concentration on the subject of women's health and the organization of the First Arab Forum for women’s health as it has become an important topic to all of the official parties in the Arab world, the date and place to be settled with the organizing company of the Federation.

10 – Organizing the Ninth Congress of the Arab Hospitals Federation in Beirut in March 2011 in parallel with the Arab Health Ministers Council and in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon.


Lebanese Minister of Health Organizes a Gala Dinner during Medhealth Cairo 2010
On the occasion of presiding the Arab Health Ministers Council & to honor the Health Ministers present, the Lebanese Minister of Public Health Dr. Mohamed Jawad Khalife organized a Gala Dinner at the Teeba Ballroom- Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel- Cairo- Egypt on March 10.
